Neuron Introduces Innovative Network Capacity Controller to Revolutionize Connectivity

Neuron recently introduced the Network Capacity Controller, a novel system designed for dynamically managing satellite capacity among marine vessels, as detailed in a press release.

This innovative controller employs artificial intelligence and machine learning to efficiently utilize satellite capacity across a fleet, enhancing resource usage, overall performance, and user experience, the organization announced.

Typically, satellite bandwidth is assigned to a vessel, aircraft, or distant location on a fixed basis. Within a fleet, if one unit needs increased bandwidth due to surging data demands, while another has surplus, reallocating these resources to balance distribution proves challenging. Efforts to model and forecast such needs help to prevent underuse and bottleneck issues; however, achieving perfect efficiency is complicated due to variable factors like geographical changes, weather conditions, varying passenger numbers, application necessities, and fluctuating demands over time. This often leads to performance drawbacks and cost inefficiencies.

The Network Capacity Controller can smartly adjust bandwidth allocation almost instantaneously without requiring manual rules or interventions. For instance, should inclement weather affect Ship A’s internet access, the controller will automatically divert excess capacity from Ship B to Ship A, prioritizing bandwidth types that are more effective in adverse weather conditions, such as C-Band, while Ship B utilizes other available bandwidths.

“Managing connectivity for a multitude of mobile vessels and aircraft or remote facilities poses significant challenges,” stated Benny Retnamony, founder and CEO of Neuron. “The Network Capacity Controller simplifies these challenges by eliminating the need to base capacity adjustments on individual endpoints. Instead, Neuron assesses the entire fleet’s capacity needs and the controller adjusts it dynamically, ensuring precise bandwidth provision when and where required.”

The technology is supported by Neuron Grid, which is powered by AI for network management, offering seamless connectivity integration across different providers, orbits, and networks. The Grid’s smart decision-making engine processes decisions every 50 milliseconds, efficiently directing traffic for a vessel, aircraft, or remote location to the most suitable connectivity option at any given moment, maximizing the use of all accessible bandwidth optimally.

“Network Capacity Controller simplifies complex engineering problems so our clients don’t have to,” added Prateek Dahale, engineering director at Neuron. “It operates discreetly, analyzing thousands of data points each second to determine the most effective way to manage and optimize a fleet’s capacity. Its algorithms continuously learn and adapt, which means decisions become progressively smarter, providing improved outcomes over time.”
