Carnival Cruise Lines on Alert as Hurricane Francine Heads Toward New Orleans

Carnival Cruise Line is closely monitoring Hurricane Francine and assessing its potential effects on cruise operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

The company has issued a statement on its website indicating that their Fleet Operations Center in Miami is actively tracking the hurricane, with advisories from the National Hurricane Center, U.S. Coast Guard, and various local port authorities.

Francine, with winds exceeding 90 mph, is projected to hit Louisiana as a Category 1 hurricane on Wednesday evening.

Carnival’s weather advisor Amy Sweezey mentioned that the Carnival Valor might experience alterations in its itinerary upon its return to New Orleans.

The ship, which left for a five-night journey to the Western Caribbean on Saturday, is due back in Louisiana on September 12, 2024.

“Passengers have been informed about possible changes to the itinerary. Ensuring everyone’s safety is our top priority,” Sweezey noted.

After a stop in Puerto Progreso, Mexico on Tuesday, the Carnival Valor is on its way back to New Orleans.

“The captain will maintain a safe distance from Hurricane Francine to ensure the safety of all on board,” added Sweezey.

Travelers planning to board the next voyage of the ship are advised to stay updated through text and email notifications regarding the vessel’s status.

“The path of the storm as it passes through New Orleans on Wednesday and early Thursday remains uncertain. We request your flexibility and to stay informed,” Sweezey advised upcoming passengers.

“Weather predictions can change, and any adjustments to the ship’s itinerary are made to correspond with the most reliable forecast available,” she emphasized.

The Port of New Orleans provided a weather update on its site, noting ongoing preparations for the hurricane.

Some services may be curtailed on Wednesday, but normal operations are anticipated to resume on Thursday, September 12, after evaluations of any damages.
