66 Degrees Expeditions China Launches Polar Cruises with the Seaventure Ship in May 2025
Chinese corporations Guangdong Travel Holding Group and Guangdong Port and Shipping Group have announced the launch of what they describe as China’s inaugural polar expedition cruise line, named “66 Degrees Expeditions”.
This new line is set to start its offerings in May 2025, focusing on polar exploration cruises initially around the Arctic region.
The operation will utilize the vessel MS Seaventure, constructed in 1990 with a maximum capacity of 168 passengers. Previously operated by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises from Germany under the name Bremen, the ship was sold to Scylla of Switzerland in 2019 and was acquired by its present Chinese owners earlier this year. It has received several updates and refurbishments, with the most recent occurring in 2022.
Beyond the Seaventure, 66 Degrees Expeditions has plans to incorporate newly built ships into its fleet, extending its range to include both Arctic and Antarctic expeditions.
The crew on board will include both Chinese and English-speaking staff to serve a wide variety of passengers.
