Disney Treasure has just surpassed another major milestone in her journey to completion.

On September 18, 2024, the third of the Triton-class vessels officially left Meyer Werft Shipyard – which is no easy feat.

The popular shipyard, located in Papenburg, Germany, is strategically positioned inland to avoid the worst of the storms that impact the North Sea. Nevertheless, this positioning complicates the process of transporting new cruise ships from the shipyard to the ocean.

Just as previous cruise ships have experienced, Disney Treasure embarked on its journey to the open sea through the constricted pathways of the Ems River. This 4,000-passenger vessel traveled these 20 miles in reverse, guided by a tugboat.

As the ship maneuvered through the river’s narrow bends, locals gathered along the shores to cheer it on.

Having successfully reached the sea, the ship, now known as the adventure-themed vessel, is set to begin its sea trials in the coming days.

Captain Marco Nogara, an experienced Disney Cruise Line captain of Disney Wonder, Disney Magic, and Disney Fantasy since 2010, is poised to supervise the forthcoming sea trials.

“During the next few days, the ship will go through a series of rigorous tests, known as sea trials. The captain of the Disney Treasure, Captain Marco, will step onboard to help oversee the trials and ensure the Disney Treasure is ready for its upcoming transatlantic journey,” the cruise line wrote in an update.

The sea trials are a critical step that all new ships must undergo before they can begin service. Over the span of several days, the vessel will undergo various assessments to check its onboard safety features, maneuverability, steering, navigation, propulsion, and speed.

While the 144,000-gross ton vessel is expected to successfully complete the upcoming tests, there could be potential delays in her launch if there are any issues. Any failures might necessitate repairs and subsequent retesting.

Disney’s latest ship is scheduled to set off on her Maiden Voyage on Saturday, December 21, 2024, positioning her debut in time to celebrate her first Christmas at sea.

The historic 7-night Eastern Caribbean sailing will call on Tortola, British Virgin Islands; St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands; and Castaway Cay, the cruise line’s original private island destination in the Bahamas.

She will then spend her first years at sea alternating between week-long Eastern and Western Caribbean sailings – which she is currently scheduled to do through May 30, 2026. The family-forward cruise line has not released new itineraries beyond this date.

Soon after Disney Treasure passes her sea trials, Disney’s next ship will embark on a transatlantic voyage to sail to her first homeport, Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida, so she is in place for her inaugural voyage.

Some of her 1,555 crew members are probably already on the ship to help Captain Marco during the trial runs at sea, especially those involved in steering, navigation, and maintaining the engine.

The rest of the crew, whom Disney refers to as cast members, are set to arrive over the next few weeks and months.

To streamline the process, the cruise line plans to phase in the new crew members, initially bringing onboard those necessary for the transatlantic crossing from Germany.

Other crew members like kids’ club staff, performers, and housekeeping personnel are not required immediately and will join the ship closer to its inaugural sail.
