Norovirus Outbreak Affects 170 Passengers on Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced a reported outbreak of gastrointestinal illness/Norovirus on board Royal Caribbean International’s Radiance of the Seas.
During the cruise from September 20th to 27th, 167 of the 2,172 passengers (7.69%) and 3 of the 894 crew members (0.34%) displayed symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal cramping.
The CDC has yet to disclose the specific type of gastrointestinal infection that has occurred in this case.
At the time of the outbreak, the ship was engaged in a 7-day “Alaska Experience Cruise,” which departed from Vancouver, BC Canada and stopped at various locations including Sitka on September 22nd, Hoonah/Icy Strait Point on September 23rd, Juneau on September 24th, and Ketchikan on September 25th.
