Silver Nova Concludes Its Inaugural Season in the Majestic Waters of Alaska

MS Silver Nova, the pioneer of Silversea‘s NOVA-class fleet, has triumphantly completed its first season navigating Alaskan waters. This cutting-edge ship, aligning with the brand’s dedication to luxury and expedition experiences, operated in Alaska from May through September, providing travelers with a plethora of enriching adventures.

A standout moment of the season was marked by the participation of acclaimed photographer and long-time partner of Silversea, Steve McCurry. In August, McCurry journeyed on board Silver Nova, skillfully photographing the vessel and Alaska’s stunning landscapes in his signature style. To celebrate Silversea’s 30th anniversary, a collection of McCurry’s photographs was exhibited aboard the ship.

After completing 19 voyages in Alaska, Silver Nova is now set to head towards the Asia-Pacific region for the very first time (RepositionCruises.com).

During its time in Alaska, guests were treated to encounters with an array of wildlife, including bears, bald eagles, sea otters, whales, and salmon. Every 7-day itinerary featured at least four major ports of call, complemented by scenic passages through the Hubbard Glacier and Inside Passage.

Departing from Vancouver BC and Seward AK, the season featured over 100 shore excursions, offering a diverse range of experiences at ports such as Juneau, Skagway, Sitka, and Ketchikan.

Some notable highlights include:

  • Silver Nova traversed over 32,000 nautical miles during its 133-day season.
  • Guests enjoyed 16 performances by the Juneau Alaska String Band, showcasing the region’s history and folklore.
  • Approximately 10,000 bottles of champagne were enjoyed at the ship’s dining venues and bars.
  • Over 120 destination lectures offered passengers deeper insights into Alaskan culture and geography.
  • Nearly 200 S.A.L.T. Lab culinary classes provided guests with a taste of local cuisine.
  • 30 photographs by Steve McCurry were showcased on board as part of the cruise line’s anniversary celebration.

Looking forward, Silver Nova will return to Alaska in 2025, featuring diverse itineraries from May to September. These journeys will visit sought-after ports like Juneau, Skagway, Sitka, and Ketchikan, as well as lesser-known locations such as Valdez, Icy Bay, Icy Strait Point, Wrangell, and Haines. Concurrently, Silver Moon will also operate in Alaska during the same timeframe, providing seven-day voyages that include scenic cruising in Hubbard Bay and the Inside Passage, with stops at celebrated Alaskan ports.
