As countless cruise travelers wait for news about their upcoming sailings in light of Hurricane Milton’s path toward Florida, Carnival Cruise Line has announced its first itinerary adjustment – impacting a cruise that won’t be traveling near the Gulf of Mexico.

This modification concerns the departure of Carnival Pride on Sunday, October 6, 2024, for a 7-night voyage to Bermuda, departing roundtrip from Baltimore, Maryland.

In response to Hurricane Milton’s anticipated track and strength following its passage over Florida, Carnival decided to reschedule the ship’s stop in Bermuda to an earlier date than initially planned. Passengers onboard have received notifications through letters placed in their staterooms.

“Forecasts indicate that the storm is expected to proceed in a generally northeasterly path, moving over Florida and into the Atlantic, potentially affecting conditions in Bermuda later this week,” the letter stated. “In light of this trajectory, we have decided to adjust our itinerary to ensure we visit Bermuda from 3:00 PM, Tuesday, October 8, until 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 10.”

The initial plan for Carnival Pride had the ship scheduled to dock at King’s Wharf, Bermuda from 8 a.m. on Wednesday, October 9, until 12 p.m. on Friday, October 11.

This revised schedule provides guests with 46 hours in Bermuda, down from the original 52 hours, resulting in a reduction of six hours of port time. Although there are no additional ports on this journey, the shortened stay is crucial for the ship to safely navigate away from any potential storm threats.

All shore excursions that were pre-booked through Carnival Cruise Line will be automatically adjusted to the new schedule. Should any tours not be available at the rescheduled time, guests will be notified individually.

The return of the 86,071-gross-ton Spirit-class ship to Baltimore is not expected to have any negative impact. Carnival Pride has a capacity to host 2,124 guests, along with more than 900 crew members from around the world.

While Hurricane Milton continues to gain strength in the western Gulf of Mexico, Carnival Cruise Line has not announced any changes for most of its ships at this moment.

In contrast, Royal Caribbean has already made proactive itinerary adjustments from several homeports that are anticipating impacts, and Margaritaville at Sea has advanced its embarkation for its ship based in Tampa.

Similarly, Virgin Voyages has informed guests that there could be adjustments to Valiant Lady‘s current voyage, although these have yet to be confirmed.

Although Carnival Cruise Line has ships departing from five homeports that may be affected, there are currently no changes being implemented for its cruises. The upcoming departures are as follows:

Passengers aboard each vessel will receive updates regarding any modifications once they are confirmed. Similarly, individuals with bookings on the next sailings for these ships will be informed if any delays are needed.

Furthermore, cruises departing from Mobile, Galveston, or even Miami could also face disruptions in the upcoming days, influenced by specific cruise routes and the storm’s anticipated path throughout the week.

Carnival Cruise Line encourages guests with potentially affected itineraries to opt-in for text and email alerts to obtain notifications as swiftly as possible.

“I genuinely wish for everyone’s safety and health,” stated John Heald, the Brand Ambassador for Carnival Cruise Line. “We will continue to provide updates as necessary.”

Some passengers are expressing their frustration over the delayed notifications, particularly given the impending storm’s clear impact on the Sunshine State. The sooner travelers are informed about changes, the better they can adapt their plans to accommodate those changes.

This concern is particularly heightened coming off the heels of Hurricane Helene, when the cruise line also delayed confirmations and updates until the very last moment, leaving many travelers in uncertainty about the status of their cruise.

Nonetheless, the cruise line must ensure that any alternative ports for their ships are secured, which can be a complex task as multiple cruise lines adjust similar itineraries in the region.

Cruise Hive will provide updates on changes to itineraries, delays, and cancellations across all cruise lines as operational modifications are confirmed. The safety of guests and crew members is always the top priority, and each cruise line will undertake the necessary measures to ensure the safety of their ships and people on board.
