Inside the Drydock Transformation of Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas

Royal Caribbean International’s Oasis of the Seas is currently in drydock at the Navantia shipyard located in Cádiz.

After completing a summer season in the Western Mediterranean, the ship, which was built in 2009, arrived at the Spanish facility on October 1, 2024.

Marking 15 years of operation this month, the vessel is receiving routine maintenance alongside class inspections and technical overhauls.

Additionally, updates to its public spaces and facilities are planned for the Oasis of the Seas.

Once the work is completed, the ship is set to welcome guests again on October 24, 2024, for a 14-night repositioning cruise to Florida.

This trans-Atlantic journey will sail from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale, with scheduled stops at various destinations in Spain and the Bahamas.

For the 2024-25 winter cruise season, the Oasis of the Seas will offer a range of cruises lasting from three to eight nights, departing from Port Everglades.

The itineraries will include visits to Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay, as well as other ports in the Southern, Eastern, and Western Caribbean.

As the inaugural ship in the Oasis class, the Oasis of the Seas began its service with Royal Caribbean International in October 2009, making its debut as the world’s largest cruise ship.

A decade later, in 2019, it underwent a significant refurbishment as part of the Royal Amplification refit program.

Royal Caribbean described this transformation as a $165-million project, which introduced new attractions, including the Ultimate Abyss dry slide, The Perfect Storm trio of waterslides, and a dedicated karaoke venue called Spotlight.

In addition, various public areas were enhanced, including a reimagined pool deck reflecting a Caribbean theme.

The Oasis of the Seas also expanded its offerings with new staterooms, featuring a selection of panoramic-view suites in an enlarged deck space over the bridge.
