Norwegian Star Arrives at Damen Shiprepair Brest for Scheduled Maintenance Dry Docking

The 294-meter Norwegian Star, managed by NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line, reached Damen Shiprepair in Brest (France) on October 21st, 2024, for a planned 3-week maintenance program.

This technical stopover consists of necessary repairs and routine maintenance under the expertise of Damen Shiprepair, aimed at enhancing the vessel’s performance for future voyages.

Notable maintenance tasks being conducted at Damen Shiprepair include:

  • Azipod Overhaul: Technicians will take apart the ship’s 2 azipods (steerable thrusters) to replace rotation bearings, which are vital for precise maneuvering.
  • Bow Thruster Service: Among the 3 bow thrusters, 2 will undergo a thorough inspection, while the third will be replaced to ensure the Norwegian Star maintains excellent handling skills.
  • Stabilizer Replacement: A major task involves replacing the ship’s stabilizer, a meticulously crafted 80-ton part supplied by Foure Lagadec, which was delivered by cargo ship from locations in France and Spain. This work necessitates partial hull cutting, expected to take place around October 25th.
  • Hull Maintenance: The ship’s hull will receive essential attention, which encompasses valve servicing, detailed cleaning, and repainting to protect the structure and enhance hydrodynamic efficiency.

After a 10-day journey from Southampton UK, Norwegian Star berthed at Brest’s Drydock 3.

The ship is set to finish these maintenance activities by mid-November, after which it will be prepared to restart revenue-generating operations.
