Cagliari Celebrates Milestone: Welcomes 500,000th Cruise Passenger!

The Cagliari Cruise Port, managed by Global Ports Holding, proudly announced that it welcomed its 500,000th cruise passenger of the year, as stated in a recent press release.

To commemorate this achievement, General Manager Raffaella Del Prete, President of the Sardinian Sea Port System Authority Massimo Deiana, and Marketing Manager Valeria Mangiarotti joined together to greet the honored guest.

The special passenger was presented with two roundtrip airline tickets to Cagliari and a complimentary stay for two at the Palazzo Tirso hotel.

This momentous occasion was further celebrated by the simultaneous arrival of three cruise ships: Costa Smeralda, Island Princess, and Emerald’s Sakara.

Del Prete commented, “This cruise season has demonstrated impressive growth, with 76 more berths scheduled for 2024 compared to last year. For the first time, we will also have cruise calls during the winter months, offering considerable economic advantages to the region throughout the year.”

“Cagliari has always been a wonderful tourist destination year-round, known not only for its stunning beaches but also for its rich history and unique attractions. As terminal operators, we are the first interaction point for cruise guests with our region, making it fitting to celebrate significant milestones like this by expressing our gratitude to the cruise lines and their guests, alongside honoring our 500,000th passenger,” she added.

In the upcoming year, 2024, Cagliari Cruise Port is anticipated to host 178 cruise ships, a notable increase from 102 in 2023, which represents a growth of over 50 percent.

Deiana remarked, “This is a groundbreaking moment for Cagliari Port and the entire Sardinian Port System, which is projected to conclude 2024 with nearly 700,000 cruise passengers.”

“We are witnessing a very encouraging, seasonally adjusted trend, with ships continuing to arrive at our ports weekly, even during the winter months. Our ambition over the next five years is to sustain this growth pattern and aim for one million cruise passengers, establishing ourselves as a leading destination in the Mediterranean,” he concluded.
