Carnival Cruise Line and Port of Baltimore Sign Five-Year Agreement Boosting Cruise Operations
Carnival Cruise Line and the Port of Baltimore have solidified their partnership with a new five-year agreement, approved by Governor Wes Moore, set to commence on January 1, 2025. The contract includes an option for an additional five-year renewal.
Governor Moore expressed enthusiasm for this collaboration, highlighting Baltimore’s recognition as a top cruise market and the long-standing relationship between Carnival and the Port. In 2023, the Port of Baltimore reported over 444,000 passengers, marking the third-highest total in its history and the most since 2012. This thriving cruise activity supports over 400 jobs in Maryland, including 220 directly at the port, contributing approximately $1 million in economic impacts per cruise to the local economy.
Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy emphasized the company’s pride in its history with Baltimore and its gratitude for the supportive partnership with the port, the city, and the state. Carnival currently operates the Carnival Pride, which has been sailing from Baltimore since it became the port’s first year-round cruise ship in 2009. The line offers a range of cruises from Baltimore, spanning five to 14 days to destinations such as the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Southern and Eastern Caribbean locales.
Jonathan Daniels, Executive Director of the Maryland Port Administration, noted the port’s advantageous location, providing easy access for travelers from various states, which encourages extended visits to enjoy what the region has to offer.
This partnership marks a continued dedication to the cruise industry in Maryland, further strengthening Baltimore’s position as a key player in the cruise market.
