Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas Faces Docking Challenges in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas faced challenges when attempting to dock at Port San Juan, Puerto Rico, due to ongoing repairs at the port’s dock intended for Oasis-class vessels. This dock has been out of service since April 2024, with restoration dependent on approval from the U.S. Coast Guard.
Captain Luis Rodriguez of the Coast Guard’s San Juan sector explained that Pier 3 West at San Juan Port is designed for large cruise ships. However, damage to the pier’s mooring structure has necessitated collaboration between Coast Guard personnel and local authorities to evaluate the dock’s safety for cruise operations.
Consequently, Royal Caribbean has had to cancel its scheduled visits to San Juan on December 28 and January 12, informing passengers of these changes via email. The message conveyed the company’s understanding of the importance of each destination to travelers’ vacations and expressed efforts to find suitable alternatives.
