Funchal Welcomes 11 Cruise Ships for an Unforgettable New Year’s Eve Celebration

Funchal is set to welcome 11 cruise ships on New Year’s Eve as it prepares to celebrate the arrival of 2025 with an impressive fireworks display. The celebration will feature a diverse lineup with ships from nine cruise lines, including AIDA Cruises, Cunard Line, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, Marella Cruises, Phoenix Reisen, P&O Cruises, Saga Cruises, and TUI Cruises.

Beginning their arrival on December 30, 2024, over 18,500 guests are expected to join the festivities, accompanied by nearly 8,000 crew members. The standout vessel is Cunard Line’s newly launched Queen Anne, which arrived in Funchal on December 31 as part of a 14-night cruise to the Canary Islands.

Two additional ships from TUI Cruises, the Mein Schiff 5 and Mein Schiff 7, will also anchor in Funchal for the celebrations. These vessels alone will bring approximately 6,000 guests to the party, catering to the German market.

The event will not only feature Hapag-Lloyd’s Europa and Phoenix Reisen’s Amera but also AIDAblu, which is making a stop during a seven-night cruise itinerary that began in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Saga Cruises’ full fleet, including Spirit of Adventure and Spirit of Discovery, will join in the celebration alongside P&O Cruises’ Aurora and Marella Cruises’ Marella Explorer.

Funchal is among several popular locations hosting cruise ships for New Year’s festivities, with Copacabana in Brazil also accommodating six ships, bringing over 19,500 passengers and around 7,500 crew members to ring in 2025.
