Silversea’s Silver Dawn Embarks on Luxurious Voyage to Subic Bay Freeport in the Bahamas

The luxury cruise ship Silver Dawn, operated by Silversea Cruises, made its inaugural visit to the Subic Bay Freeport on December 31, 2024. The arrival of approximately 1,000 tourists marked a significant moment for Subic Bay, showcasing its growing role in the cruise tourism sector.

Eduardo Jose L. Alino, the Chairman and Administrator of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), noted that Silversea, based in Monaco and part of the Royal Caribbean Group, highlights the region’s appeal as a luxury destination. The Silver Dawn, with 596 passengers and 411 crew members on board, celebrated New Year’s Eve in the Freeport area.

Ronnie R. Yambao, SBMA’s Port Operations Senior Deputy Administrator, stated their aim to exceed pre-COVID levels of cruise ship calls. The Freeport is aspiring for 20 cruise ship visits by 2025, with the Blue Dream Star scheduled for three visits on April 11, May 3, and July 8, 2025, bringing 1,053 passengers. In addition, the Viva Vie Odyssey is confirmed for a docking on September 23, 2025 with 924 passengers and 370 crew members.

Philippine Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco expressed optimism about the potential for cruise tourism in the region during a recent meeting at the Subic Bay Yacht Club. She proposed expanding the Freeport’s cruise offerings through initiatives like homeporting and enhancing tourist security by integrating the Tourist-Oriented Police for Community Order and Protection (TOPCOP) program with local safety officers.

Frasco also encouraged the development of accommodations in Zambales as part of the Philippine Experience Program (PEP) and targeted marketing of the area as a destination for diving enthusiasts.
