Long-Term Ferry Service Contract Signed Between Government of Jersey and DFDS Ferries
The Government of Jersey (UK) has established a 20-year contract with DFDS Ferries to oversee ferry services connecting the Island with the UK and France, effective March 28, 2025. This agreement will facilitate both passenger and freight transportation on routes to Poole and Portsmouth in the UK, as well as Saint-Malo in France.
DFDS has committed to several improvements for the ferry services, which include:
- Increased sailing frequency to the UK and France during busy travel periods.
- Introduction of faster ferry vessels for UK routes.
- Deployment of three new ferries by 2032.
- Provision of two dedicated high-speed ferries for summer service.
Kirsten Morel, the Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, conveyed a positive outlook on the agreement, emphasizing that this collaboration will enhance ferry services for the Island’s residents over the next two decades.
