HAL-Holland America Line Invests $70M to Expand Alaskan Cruise Offerings
Holland America Line has announced a significant $70 million investment aimed at enhancing its property and cruisetour experiences in Alaska. This multi-year project focuses on the Denali Lodge, where guests can expect substantial upgrades to their overall experience.
In 2025, improvements to the riverside interpretive trail will introduce scenic viewpoints and better wayfinding. The dining options will be refined, and public spaces within the Cottonwood and Canyon Lodge buildings will see enhancements. By 2026, 48 rooms will be remodeled, alongside the introduction of a new coffee shop and an expanded Karstens Public House with additional indoor and outdoor seating designed to immerse guests in the Alaskan environment. The project will reach its conclusion in 2027, which will bring a new guest-room building featuring 120 suites and standard rooms, as well as renovations to the main lodge that will introduce a new restaurant concept, a redesigned lobby bar, and an elevated coffee experience.
For travelers interested in exploring Alaska, Holland America Line’s Cruisetours for 2025 and 2026 are now open for booking. These itineraries combine Alaskan cruises with land journeys into Denali National Park and Canada’s Yukon Territory, providing guests with unparalleled access to the region’s stunning natural landscapes. The 17+ itineraries include unique experiences like a scenic ride on the glass-domed McKinley Explorer train, which offers panoramic views of Alaska’s dramatic terrain. Some routes even venture through Dawson City and include journeys on the historic White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad from Skagway. Notably, select itineraries provide direct-to-Denali service, allowing for a seamless transition from ship to lodge in a single day.
Holland America Line leads the cruise industry in wildlife viewing opportunities in Alaska. Expert guides accompany guests onboard to help spot diverse wildlife such as whales, eagles, and bears. Passengers will receive wildlife spotting guides complete with maps detailing the best viewing spots, and sightings will be actively announced throughout the day. On land, approximately 180 animal sanctuaries and wilderness tours underscore the cruise line’s commitment to offering immersive wildlife excursions.
