HAL Holland America Line Invests $70 Million to Expand Alaskan Cruise Offerings

HAL-Holland America Line has announced a significant $70 million investment aimed at enhancing its Denali National Park property and the cruisetour experience that combines land and sea travel. This multi-year project will focus on upgrading the guest experience at the Denali Lodge.

Beginning in 2025, improvements will include enhancements to the riverside interpretive trail featuring scenic viewpoints and better wayfinding, as well as refined dining options and upgrades to public areas in the Cottonwood and Canyon Lodge buildings. By 2026, the lodge will see the addition of 48 remodeled rooms, a new coffee shop, and an expanded Karstens Public House boasting extra indoor and outdoor seating to fully immerse guests in the Alaskan atmosphere. The project will conclude in 2027 with a new guest-room building that will provide 120 suites and standard rooms, alongside a renovated main lodge that features a new restaurant concept, a redesigned lobby bar, and an upgraded coffee experience.

Holland America Line’s Cruisetours for 2025 and 2026 are now available for booking. These itineraries merge Alaskan cruises with overland journeys into Denali National Park and Canada’s Yukon Territory, promising guests an unparalleled view of the region’s natural wonders. Each of the more than 17 itineraries incorporates unique features, including a scenic ride on the glass-domed McKinley Explorer train for stunning views of Alaska’s dramatic landscapes. Selected routes will traverse Dawson City and include rides on the historic White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad from Skagway. Some itineraries also offer direct-to-Denali service, facilitating a seamless transition from ship to lodge in just one day.

Furthermore, Holland America Line offers more opportunities to witness Alaska’s wildlife than any other cruise line. Wildlife experts accompany guests on board, assisting in spotting the region’s diverse fauna such as whales, eagles, bears, moose, sea lions, and otters. Guests will receive wildlife spotting guides detailing the best viewing locations, and sightings will be announced throughout the day to enhance the experience. Additionally, around 180 animal sanctuaries and wilderness tours are available, emphasizing Holland America Line’s leadership in Alaska wildlife excursions.
