Royal Caribbean’s Star OTS: Celebrating Caribbean Artistry with the Artist Discovery Program
RCI-Royal Caribbean International has reintroduced its Artist Discovery Program, which aims to showcase Caribbean artistry aboard its forthcoming ship, Star of the Seas, set to launch in August 2025. Building on the success of the program first initiated on the Icon of the Seas, this initiative invites emerging Caribbean artists to contribute original artwork to the ship’s curated collection, celebrating the rich culture and beauty of the region.
Selected artists will get the opportunity to create large-scale murals in key locations on the ship, including the Royal Promenade and Suite Sundeck Lobby. Each artist will receive grants ranging from $20,000 to over $100,000 to help realize their visions in collaboration with Royal Caribbean’s team in Turku, Finland, where the ship is being constructed. The application deadline for artists is February 15, 2025, and they are required to submit samples of their work along with a brief artist statement and a resume.
The program showcases the talents of artists such as Angelika Wallace-Whitfield from The Bahamas, Phillipe Dodard from Haiti, and Jason Hospedales from Trinidad and Tobago, whose works have significantly enhanced the onboard experience for millions of guests.
Star of the Seas will feature eight unique neighborhoods designed to cater to a variety of vacation preferences, alongside exciting new venues like the Lincoln Park Supper Club. The ship will operate year-round from Port Canaveral in Florida, offering 7-night Caribbean cruises that include stops at Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay, as well as other popular destinations like Cozumel, Philipsburg, and Basseterre.
Future iterations of the Artist Discovery Program will continue to highlight local artistry, enhancing the cultural heritage experiences across Royal Caribbean’s fleet.
