Royal Caribbean’s Star OTS: Celebrating Caribbean Artistry with the Artist Discovery Program

RCI-Royal Caribbean International is set to relaunch its Artist Discovery Program on its latest ship, Star of the Seas, which is due to launch in August 2025. The initiative aims to highlight Caribbean artists and their talents through a curated collection of art reflecting the vibrant culture and beauty of the region.

This program, initially introduced on Icon of the Seas, allows emerging artists from around the Caribbean to create large-scale murals in key areas of the ship, such as the Royal Promenade and Suite Sundeck Lobby. Selected artists will receive grants between $20,000 and over $100,000 to develop their works in cooperation with Royal Caribbean’s team at the shipyard in Turku, Finland, where the Star OTS is currently under construction.

Artists interested in participating must submit their applications by February 15, 2025, which should include five samples of original artwork, an artist statement outlining their inspiration, and a CV detailing their experience.

Building on the success of the 2023 program featuring artists like Angelika Wallace-Whitfield from The Bahamas and Phillipe Dodard from Haiti, millions of guests are expected to appreciate the artistic contributions onboard.

Star of the Seas promises to be a unique vacation experience with eight distinct neighborhoods catering to different travelers, including Chill Island and a world-class waterpark named Category 6. The ship will operate year-round from Port Canaveral, Florida, offering 7-night Caribbean cruises that include stops at attractions like Perfect Day at CocoCay and other popular destinations.

The continuation of the Artist Discovery Program aims to enrich Royal Caribbean’s fleet, celebrating local artistry and cultural heritage with each new ship launch.
