Knife Attack at Fincantieri Monfalcone: Security Concerns Rise at Star Princess Ship Construction Site
On January 20, 2025, a violent incident occurred at the construction site of the Star Princess ship in Monfalcone, Italy. A 28-year-old Bangladeshi plumber was injured during an altercation with a 24-year-old colleague, also from Bangladesh. The incident took place around 8:20 AM while regular operations were in process.
The attacker used a 10-centimeter fruit knife, resulting in cuts on the victim’s arms, legs, and buttocks. Fortunately, his injuries were classified as non-serious, and he was treated and subsequently released from San Polo Hospital.
Local police apprehended the alleged assailant, who now faces charges of aggravated assault. Although the police have not disclosed a specific motive, early reports indicate that the confrontation may have stemmed from a personal disagreement between the two workers.
Fincantieri, the shipbuilding company responsible for the construction of the Star Princess, has condemned the incident and pledged to closely monitor the situation as investigations continue.
The Star Princess, being built for Princess Cruises, is notable for being the second LNG-powered vessel in the cruise line’s fleet and is anticipated to be delivered in 2025.
