Norwegian Cruise Line Begins Construction of New Pier at Great Stirrup Cay

NCLH-Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has launched a significant construction project for a new cruise pier at Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas, marking a notable advancement in its strategic plans. The US$150 million investment aims to enhance guest access to the private island and is scheduled for completion by late 2025. The new pier will be capable of accommodating two large vessels at once, specifically catering to Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

This initiative aligns with NCLH’s strategy to bolster its private island offerings and prepare for its upcoming next-generation fleet currently being constructed at Fincantieri in Italy. Additionally, the company plans to upgrade the island’s infrastructure to meet long-term growth objectives, emphasizing operational optimization and financial sustainability.

A ceremonial groundbreaking event was attended by several dignitaries, including Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Davis and NCLH executives, such as CEO Harry Sommer, highlighting the project’s importance to the local community. NCLH has characterized the pier as a transformative investment, benefitting both the Bahamas and its cruise operations.

Reinforcing its commitment to the region, NCLH also announced an investment of over US$45,000 in 2025 to support educational initiatives in the Bahamas, which will include scholarships, internships, and improvements to educational facilities.
