RCG Announces Order for Sixth EDGE-Class Ship for Celebrity Cruises, Set for 2028 Delivery

Royal Caribbean Group (RCG), the world’s second-largest cruise ship owner, has confirmed plans to build a sixth EDGE-class ship for its brand, Celebrity Cruises. Scheduled for delivery in 2028, the new vessel will be constructed at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard located in Saint-Nazaire, France.

This ship will join Celebrity’s fleet as a sister ship to the upcoming Celebrity Ascent, which is anticipated to launch in November 2025. Both ships will showcase innovative technology, including the ability to operate on methanol, reinforcing Celebrity’s commitment to sustainability and green maritime practices.

The contract for the sixth EDGE-class vessel hinges on standard conditions, including finalizing financing arrangements. Meanwhile, the Celebrity Ascent is set to introduce seven new experiences designed to enhance the guest experience, marking a shift towards a customer-driven approach in shaping culinary and entertainment options.

This upcoming addition to the EDGE fleet marks a decade since the introduction of the first ship in the series, the Celebrity Edge, which debuted in 2018. The EDGE-class is renowned for its modern design, luxury amenities, and advanced technological features, confirming its position as a leader in the evolving cruise industry.
