Progress on Restoration of Port of Volos’ Cruise Pier After 2023 Flooding
The Port Authority of Volos in Greece is currently undertaking debris removal operations at its cruise ship pier, which were heavily impacted by the floods of 2023. These floods resulted in the accumulation of approximately 700,000 cubic meters of debris, significantly reducing the pier’s operating depths and complicating cruise ship docking.
The debris removal project is scheduled to be completed by March 31, 2025, aiming to restore the pier’s operating depths to 9.5 meters. This restoration is critical for allowing modern cruise vessels to dock effectively.
As work progresses, the Port Authority of Volos is actively encouraging cruise operators to add Volos to their itineraries for the upcoming cruise season, reaffirming the port’s readiness to receive both ships and passengers. This effort demonstrates Volos’ commitment to recovery and maintaining its importance as a key destination within the Aegean cruise network.
