Ferry Services Suspended Between Isle of Wight and Southampton Amid Storm Herminia
Ferry services between the Isle of Wight and Southampton in the UK have been suspended indefinitely due to the impact of Storm Herminia. Red Funnel, the service provider, confirmed the cancellations for both car and foot passenger ferries, apologizing to travelers for the disruption.
On January 26, 2025, Storm Herminia brought strong winds and widespread power outages to the southwest of England. The Met Office issued yellow weather warnings for wind and rain, complicating the situation that had already been affected by Storm Eowyn earlier in the week. Storm Eowyn was noted to be "probably the strongest storm" to hit the UK in a decade, with winds surpassing 100 mph (160 km/h).
The interruptions in ferry service add to ongoing disruptions that Red Funnel’s fast vessel service was already facing prior to Storm Herminia’s arrival. Passengers and mariners are advised to stay updated with information from Red Funnel and the Met Office as weather conditions continue to change.
