Progress Update: Restoration of Cruise Pier in Port of Volos, Greece After 2023 Flood Damage

The Port Authority of Volos in Greece has initiated debris removal operations at the cruise pier, which were severely affected by the catastrophic floods of 2023. An estimated 700,000 cubic meters of debris had been deposited into the turning basin, drastically reducing the operating depth to the point where it hindered the docking of cruise ships.

The current efforts aim to restore the pier’s operating depths back to 9.5 meters by March 31, 2025, thereby allowing for efficient cruise ship moorings. The Port Authority is optimistic about the progress of the debris removal project and is actively inviting cruise operators to include Volos in their upcoming itineraries.

This restoration effort illustrates the port’s resilience and dedication to maintaining its significance as a prime destination within the Aegean cruise network. The Port of Volos is looking forward to once again welcoming vessels and passengers as it prepares for the return of cruise-related activities.
