CMP-Copenhagen Malmö Port Aims for 1 Million Passengers by 2025

Copenhagen Malmo Port (CMP) is set to surpass 1 million cruise passengers in 2025, following a busy 2024 that nearly reached this milestone. The distribution of passengers in 2024 revealed that roughly 170,000 embarked from Visby, over 818,000 from Copenhagen, and 1,700 from Malmo. Throughout the year, Copenhagen welcomed 280 total port calls, including 106 turnaround calls and 26 overnight stays. Visby’s operational period runs from April to October and into December, with a total of 102 calls, while Malmo had just 3.

Copenhagen is acknowledged as Europe’s Leading Cruise Port for 2024 by the World Travel Awards, thanks to its consistent monthly calls, establishing year-round operations. The ports celebrated nine first-time calls in Copenhagen and eleven in Visby. The majority of the cruise passengers originated from Germany, with significant representation from other European nations.

CMP projects that in 2025, the passenger count will exceed 1 million with 403 port calls anticipated. Of these, Copenhagen forecasts 850,000 passengers with 295 calls (107 turnaround), and Visby expects 172,000 passengers with 105 calls. Copenhagen plans to maintain its year-round operational status, already logging its first calls of 2025 on January 3rd.

The implementation of a new shore-power facility with five connection points at Oceankaj and Langelinie will commence in 2025, aiming for full capacity by 2028. CMP has been supplying shore power to the Oslo-Copenhagen ferry since 2021. Additionally, the Langelinie terminals have been refurbished to include shore power capabilities and direct sewage connections, ready for full operation in 2025. CMP is committed to achieving net-zero CO2 emissions by 2025.

To promote responsible cruise tourism in the Baltic region, CMP will sustain strategic partnerships through Cruise Denmark – Copenhagen and Beyond, Cruise Baltic, and Cruise Europe. Notably, Copenhagen will host the Cruise Europe annual conference in May 2025, marking 33 years since it facilitated the inaugural event in 1992.
