Ferry Services Suspended Between Isle of Wight and Southampton Amid Storm Herminia

Ferry services between the Isle of Wight and Southampton have been suspended indefinitely due to the impact of Storm Herminia. Red Funnel, the ferry operator, has announced the cancellation of both car and foot passenger services, citing adverse weather conditions. The company has apologized to passengers for the inconvenience caused.

The storm has brought high winds and widespread power outages across the southwest of England, having approached the UK on January 26th. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for wind and rain, with conditions made more severe by Storm Eowyn which had occurred earlier in the week. Storm Eowyn was described as "probably the strongest storm" to hit the UK in a decade, with wind speeds exceeding 100 mph (160 km/h).

These service cancellations come in the wake of ongoing adjustments to Red Funnel’s fast vessel service, which had already been modified prior to Storm Herminia’s arrival. Passengers and mariners are advised to keep an eye on updates from both Red Funnel and the Met Office as the situation develops.
