Introducing the Amadeus Aurea: Luftner-Amadeus River Cruises Expands Fleet in 2026
Luftner’s Amadeus River Cruises is set to launch a new ship, Amadeus Aurea, scheduled to commence operations in May 2026. This vessel will be serving routes along the Rhine and Danube rivers, accommodating 158 passengers with a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system aimed at minimizing CO emissions. The engines are equipped with high-performance filters for extensive air pollution reduction, alongside a heat-recovery system to utilize the thermal energy produced during its operation.
Amadeus Aurea features 12 suites and 67 outside cabins, all designed with panoramic windows that offer stunning views throughout the journey. Guests will have access to a variety of dining experiences, including the Amadeus Lounge, Café Vienna, and the Panorama Restaurant, with a relaxed setting available at the Lido Bar on the sundeck, which also features a heated outdoor pool.
The ship is home-ported in Passau and will offer journey durations ranging from 8 to 15 days. The Classical Rhine cruise will include destinations from Basel, Switzerland to Amsterdam, Netherlands, highlighting Koblenz—one of Germany’s oldest towns—along with a vineyard visit and a tour of the Amsterdam canals. Another itinerary, the Blue Danube cruise, will operate from Budapest, Hungary to Nuremberg, Germany, featuring activities such as food tours, classical concerts, and wine tastings.
In addition to the Amadeus Aurea, Luftner will also be expanding its fleet with the luxury vessel Amara in April 2025.
