TUI Cruises Explores Expansion with Potential Order of Two Additional InTUItion Ships
TUI Cruises is currently in discussions with Fincantieri for the construction of two additional ships from the InTUItion class. This move would expand their fleet of modern vessels, adding to the existing sister ships, Mein Schiff Relax and Mein Schiff Flow, and bringing the total to four InTUItion-class vessels and eleven ships in the Mein Schiff fleet.
Despite the ongoing negotiations, the reports are still speculative. However, ordering two more ships aligns with previous expansions in the fleet; when the original Mein Schiff newbuilds were ordered from Meyer Turku, it resulted in a total of seven ships being constructed in Finland. Adding two more InTUItion-class vessels would not only boost capacity but is also expected to strengthen TUI’s market presence in the German-speaking cruise industry.
It may take several years before these additional ships set sail, as the construction of cruise vessels typically spans around two and a half years. Currently, Fincantieri’s shipyards in Monfalcone and Marghera, which are equipped to build such large ships, are nearing full capacity.
In the meantime, preparations for the inaugural voyage of Mein Schiff Relax are progressing, offering TUI the chance to gain operational insights that may inform future decisions regarding the InTUItion class expansion. This class is notable for introducing innovations such as LNG propulsion and various enhancements aimed at improving guest experiences.
