Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas Performs Two Medevac Missions in New Caledonia
Three Australian passengers aboard Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas were medically evacuated during their 8-day South Pacific cruise. The evacuations occurred on February 19, 2025, and were organized by the Armed Forces in New Caledonia using a maritime gendarmerie patrol boat.
The first medical emergency was reported on the evening of February 18, as the ship neared Noumea. By 8:00 a.m. the next day, the first patient had been successfully transferred to shore for urgent medical care at Medipole.
Following that, shortly after Quantum of the Seas was set to depart New Caledonia, a second emergency was declared. The maritime pilot alerted the Operational Surveillance and Rescue Centre (COSS) about two additional passengers needing immediate medical assistance. After a remote medical consultation, the patrol boat was redeployed to complete the second evacuation by 10:30 a.m.
All three passengers received necessary treatment at Medipole, allowing Quantum of the Seas to continue its scheduled voyage, which started and ended in Brisbane, Australia.
