ACL’s American Legend: A New Era of Cruising Launched in Key West, Florida

American Cruise Lines has officially christened its newest vessel, the American Legend, in Key West, Florida. This event took place at Mallory Square while the ship was docked as part of its 8-day Florida Gulf Coast & Keys itinerary, departing from St. Petersburg, Florida.

The American Legend is part of ACL’s innovative Project Blue series, designed for domestic cruising that highlights the charm of Florida’s coast. The christening ceremony featured speeches, a plaque exchange, and live music, with Key West Mayor Danise DeeDee Henriquez serving as the ship’s godmother. She joined ACL’s President & CEO, Charles B. Robertson, in the ceremonial breaking of a bottle on the ship’s top deck. The event was attended by various local officials, excursion partners, and members of the ship’s crew.

During the ceremony, American Cruise Lines was acknowledged for its environmentally friendly practices and commitment to small-ship travel that supports local economies. The festivities concluded with everyone singing "Margaritaville," celebrating the maritime culture of Key West.

The American Legend boasts a catamaran bow for improved maneuverability and will offer a variety of itineraries throughout the year. After its Florida cruise season, the ship will move on to operate American Revolution cruises on the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River, leaving from Washington DC. In the summer, it will explore coastal New England routes from Boston and New York, before returning to the Hudson River for exclusive voyages in September and October, followed by another winter season in Florida.

The ship features 56 staterooms that accommodate 109 guests across five decks, with private balconies, a spacious top deck for panoramic views, lounges, a main dining area, a casual café, a fitness center, and a walking track.
