A woman is embarking on an extraordinary retirement journey, having purchased a $1.9 million home on a cruise ship that will take her around the world.

At 63, Count Debra Kilgore from Arizona has decided to make her retirement a grand adventure, opting against traditional options like a conventional home or retirement community. She chose to live aboard a cruise ship where residents can vote on the next destination.

Speaking to Realtor, Debra expressed her excitement about transitioning into this unique lifestyle. She shared that being an only child has made her comfortable with solitude, stating, “I’m really looking forward to being on the ship by myself." She values the flexibility of traveling alone, allowing her to explore destinations at a more personal level, away from typical tourist paths.

Debra, a mother and grandmother, mentioned that she won’t be alone entirely—her nine-year-old dog, Choo Choo Bella, will join her. She revealed that Bella has already traveled extensively, including visits to Canada and several Hawaiian islands.

The pair will move into their home on the MV Narrative, a residential cruise ship set to launch in 2027. This vessel not only accommodates pets, featuring a vet on board, but also boasts an array of amenities for its 530 residents.

Reflecting on her upcoming adventure, Debra highlighted her love for the water and her disdain for cold weather, expressing anticipation for destinations like the Mediterranean, South Pacific, Greek islands, and the Galapagos Islands.

In 2022, inspired by an article she read, Debra secured her spot with a $10,000 deposit on a one-bedroom, 1.5-bathroom unit located on the 12th deck, eagerly looking forward to the lifestyle ahead.
