Brilliance of the Seas: RCI’s Lifesaving Maritime Rescue in the Gulf of Mexico
On February 26, 2025, the Royal Caribbean vessel Brilliance of the Seas successfully performed a maritime rescue operation in the Gulf of Mexico, saving 11 individuals from a distressed boat located between Cuba and Mexico.
During a 7-night Caribbean cruise organized by the LGBTQ+ vacation company VACAYA, the ship departed from New Orleans on February 22, with scheduled stops in Cozumel and Grand Cayman, before heading to Progreso. Passengers and crew first spotted the distressed vessel and initiated a rescue effort.
The crew promptly provided medical assistance, food, water, and dry clothing to the rescued individuals. Documentation from the rescue shows multiple trips made by the ship’s rescue boat to transfer the individuals aboard. VACAYA representatives praised the teamwork involved in the operation, especially the guests who helped gather clothing for the rescued individuals.
As of now, the current health status of the rescued persons has not been disclosed, and Royal Caribbean is working with the relevant authorities to determine the next steps.
