Cruise Ship Orderbook Update: An Overview of 67 New Ships and 170,000 Berths on the Horizon

The latest update from Cruise Industry News on the cruise ship orderbook reveals a total of 67 vessels and approximately 170,000 berths currently on order across 25 different brands. This represents a significant investment in the cruise industry, with the orderbook valued at $57 billion. The new ships are designed to accommodate an average of 2,500 guests and feature an average size of 115,000 gross tons.

Fifteen ships are scheduled for delivery in 2025. Notably, six of these are being constructed by Fincantieri, with additional ships being built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique and Meyer shipyards in Finland and Germany. The year commenced with the delivery of the Mein Schiff Relax, which was added to TUI Cruises’ fleet in early February.

Among the new ships making their debut this year, Disney Cruise Line will welcome two – the 208,000-ton Disney Adventure and the Disney Destiny, a Wish-class vessel. These ships are part of an impressive lineup, including the Star of the Seas, which will be one of the largest cruise ships in the world, set to join Royal Caribbean’s fleet in August.

Princess Cruises is also adding a new vessel, the Star Princess, a sister to the Sun Princess, scheduled for the third quarter of 2025. Additionally, MSC Cruises will launch the World America, which will operate year-round in the U.S. beginning in April.

Royal Caribbean Group has furthered its fleet expansion by signing a deal for a sixth Edge Class vessel for Celebrity Cruises, expected to be built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique and delivered in 2028. Moreover, Viking has confirmed details for its upcoming newbuilds, set to take delivery of the Viking Mira and Viking Libra next year, followed by the Viking Astrea in 2027.

Lastly, Orient Express has updated its plans for two sailing yachts, and Four Seasons has also provided an updated delivery schedule, showcasing the ongoing expansion and diversification of the cruise industry.
