Seabourn Sojourn Acquired by Mitsui Ocean Cruises: What This Means for the Future of Luxury Cruising
Mitsui Ocean Cruises has purchased the Seabourn Sojourn from Seabourn and Carnival Corporation. This marks the second acquisition for Mitsui, a subsidiary of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), which previously acquired the Seabourn Odyssey as the Mitsui Ocean Fuji in late 2024.
Following the sale, Seabourn will continue to operate the 2010-built vessel, which accommodates 458 guests, by chartering it back from Mitsui. The charter will remain in effect until the conclusion of Seabourn’s world cruise on May 15, 2026. After this period, the Sojourn will officially transition to Mitsui’s fleet, joining the Mitsui Ocean Fuji and Nippon Maru.
Mark Tamis, president of Seabourn, expressed confidence that this move would enable Seabourn to maintain one of the industry’s youngest and most modern fleets tailored to provide an exclusive, yacht-like experience. Guest engagement is emphasized with offerings spanning over 500 destinations across seven continents.
For Mitsui, the acquisition is part of a broader strategy to expand its cruise business. Tsunemichi Mukai, president of Mitsui Ocean Cruises, shared positive feedback regarding guests’ reactions to the Mitsui Ocean Fuji and highlighted the ambition to deliver unique experiences that capture "FUNATABI – Beautiful encounters with Japan."
Guests with bookings impacted after May 15, 2026, will receive communication regarding any necessary changes or rebooking options, as Seabourn aims to honor the legacy of the Sojourn throughout its remaining time in the Seabourn fleet.
