Carnival Cruise Canceled: Impact of Tropical Cyclone Forces Itineraries to Change

A cruise scheduled on the Carnival Luminosa from Brisbane has been canceled due to the impact of Tropical Cyclone Alfred. The cruise was set to depart on March 6, 2025. In a statement on social media, the company explained that the current weather situation posed a significant threat and that Brisbane’s port would be closed.

Carnival Australia announced, “We are continuing to monitor Tropical Cyclone Alfred. Given its current track, the storm is expected to directly impact the Brisbane area in the coming days.” Consequently, the cruise line had no choice but to cancel the upcoming three-day cruise.

Guests who were to board will receive full refunds, including for any pre-purchased items. Carnival assured that passenger safety is their top priority, indicating that the Luminosa’s return from its current voyage would be delayed until conditions allow safe docking. The ship is anticipated to stay a safe distance from the cyclone to minimize any potential discomfort for guests.

Despite this setback, Carnival Luminosa is scheduled to resume its regular operations on March 9, 2025, beginning with a four-night cruise to Airlie Beach. The ship, which accommodates 2,260 guests, is slated to offer several voyages from Brisbane before relocating to North America in early May. In the summer of 2025, the Luminosa will operate a series of seven-night cruises to Alaska and Canada and is expected to return to Australia for another winter season later in the year.
