MSC World America Set for Grand Christening at PortMiami’s State-of-the-Art Cruise Terminal

MSC Cruises has announced that actor and entrepreneur Drew Barrymore will serve as the godmother of its flagship vessel, the MSC World America. The ship’s naming ceremony is set for April 9th at the newly opened MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, which boasts the title of the world’s largest cruise facility.

During the ceremony, Barrymore, along with her co-star Orlando Bloom from MSC’s recent “Let’s Holiday” campaign, will partake in the traditional maritime ritual of breaking a champagne bottle against the ship’s bow using a ribbon-cutting mechanism. Barrymore expressed her excitement about the honor, highlighting her love for travel and the ship’s purpose of facilitating global exploration.

According to Suzanne Salas, Executive Vice President of Marketing for MSC USA, Barrymore embodies the brand’s values through her combination of sophistication and commitment to experiential travel.

After the christening, MSC World America will launch a 3-night voyage to Ocean Cay Bahamas, where the MSC Foundation will unveil a Marine Conservation Centre, aimed at supporting coral reef restoration efforts as part of the Foundation’s Super Coral Program. This will also provide educational experiences for guests.

The MSC World America features seven themed districts, including The Harbour—a family-friendly outdoor area with an over-water swing ride, water park, and free dining options. Onboard, there are 18 bars and lounges, such as the All-Stars Sports Bar and The Loft comedy venue, and 19 dining venues including the first seagoing Eataly restaurant and the Greek-inspired Paxos. Other notable features include a 3-level World Galleria and one of the longest dry slides at sea.

The ship will commence its inaugural season from Miami on April 12th, offering alternating 7-night itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, with stops including Ocean Cay, Puerto Plata, Cozumel, and Nassau.
