BIRKA GOTLAND Ship Celebrates One-Year Anniversary with Record-Breaking Passenger Traffic
The Swedish cruise ship BIRKA GOTLAND is celebrating its first anniversary, having successfully completed a year of service with over 532,000 passengers transported across seven Baltic Sea ports. Launched in March 2024 after a SEK 70 million (approximately US$7 million) refurbishment—which included a revamped spa and enhancements to the terrace on deck 10—the vessel has tailored its offerings to better appeal to the Swedish cruise audience.
CEO Kenneth Gustavsson expressed their commitment to establishing the best cruise experience in Sweden. He highlighted ongoing improvements in areas such as dining, entertainment, retail, and relaxation to enhance passenger satisfaction. As a testament to this effort, there has been a notable increase in bookings of 30% for the upcoming May–June period compared to the previous year.
In addition to its primary routes that connect Stockholm, Mariehamn Aland, and Visby, BIRKA GOTLAND has also sailed to several other ports, including the High Coast, Ystad, Bornholm, and Riga. The second summer season in 2025 promises a variety of both shorter and longer itineraries throughout the Baltic Sea.
