Costa Diadema and MSC Seaview: Hosts for COP30-UN Climate Change Conference Guests

The upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (COP30), set to take place in November in Belém, Brazil, has prompted a unique maritime logistics strategy involving two major cruise ships. The Costa Diadema and MSC Seaview, which together can host over 9,500 passengers, will function as floating accommodations for attendees.

These vessels are scheduled to dock at the Outeiro port from November 5 through November 22, extending their availability for one day beyond the conclusion of the official summit. This arrangement was outlined during a briefing attended by representatives from 103 embassies in Brasília, emphasizing Brazil’s preparedness to host this significant global event.

To support the influx of international delegations, plans are underway to expand the Belém waterway terminal to double its current size, enhancing its capacity to welcome maritime guests. Additional lodging will be provided through the creation of 400 extra rooms in the Vila de Lideres for official delegates, complemented by sourcing accommodations from nearby hotels, private residences, and apartment rentals. Overall, these efforts aim to secure around 32,000 beds for the conference participants.
