Oceania’s Insignia: A New Chapter as She Joins Crescent Seas Residential Cruise Line

Crescent Seas, a luxury residential cruise line based in the USA, has unveiled plans for a significant transformation of the Oceania Cruises ship Insignia. This initiative represents the introduction of Crescent Seas’ second residential vessel, following the completion of its first. The Insignia will undergo a $50 million renovation to become a floating community with 290 private residences, ranging in price from $650,000 to $10 million. The new vessel is set to begin service in late 2027, with its first voyage scheduled for New Year’s Eve 2028.

Sales of these residences will commence in late summer 2025 at a dedicated gallery located in the Gale Miami Hotel & Residences, marking Crescent Seas’ expansion into the luxury cruise and real estate markets.

Originally launched in 1999 as the R One, Insignia is among eight R-class ships constructed for Renaissance Cruises. It was last extensively refurbished in 2018. This next transformation will convert the ship for permanent residential use while ensuring technical and operational support from its original operators.

This move reflects a growing trend in luxury maritime offerings, allowing residents to enjoy prolonged stays at sea. The design facilitates extended port stays of up to five days, granting residents a more immersive experience of local cultures without the constraints of traditional cruise schedules.

Onboard, residents will benefit from luxury amenities managed by a dedicated hospitality provider, which will include gourmet dining options, wellness programs, concierge services, and various recreational activities. The vessel’s design promotes comfort and community, catering to digital nomads, families, retirees, and those seeking alternative long-term living arrangements on the water.

Additionally, Crescent Seas has plans to introduce three more residential cruise ships over the next five years, each designed to provide ongoing oceanfront living while traversing global destinations, thus catering to a new segment of full-time seafaring homeowners.
