Celestyal Discovery Goes Green: Embracing Biofuel Blends to Reduce CO2 Emissions
On April 8, 2025, Coral Marine Products SA, part of Coral SA, announced the successful delivery of a new marine fuel blend that incorporates biofuels, marking a significant milestone in eco-friendly maritime practices in Greece. The Celestyal Discovery became the first ship in Greek waters to utilize this innovative blend, which combines traditional marine diesel with biofuel. This initiative is reported to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 21%.
This operation was executed in collaboration with Motor Oil, a prominent Greek energy group. The biofuel used is a second-generation product produced from recycled used cooking oils by Verd, a subsidiary of Motor Oil. It is noteworthy that this type of fuel does not compete with agricultural resources and adheres to the new ISO 8217:2024 standards, ensuring exceptional operational safety and performance.
Coral Marine highlighted that this effort aligns with the objectives set by the International Maritime Organization for lowering CO emissions in the maritime sector.
