Celestyal Discovery Pioneers Sustainability with Biofuel Blend to Reduce CO Emissions
The Greek marine fuel supplier Coral Marine Products SA announced on April 8th its first delivery of a marine fuel blend featuring biofuels in Greece. This milestone was marked by the fueling of the Celestyal Discovery ship, which has become the first vessel in Greek waters to utilize a combination of conventional marine diesel and biofuel. This pioneering blend is credited with reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 21%.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Greek multinational energy company Motor Oil. The biofuel, produced in Greece from recycled used cooking oils by Verd, a subsidiary of Motor Oil, is classified as a second-generation fuel. This eco-friendly option does not interfere with agricultural production and meets the new ISO 8217:2024 standards, ensuring optimal performance and safety during operations.
Coral Marine emphasized that this initiative supports the International Maritime Organization’s goals for reducing CO emissions within the maritime industry.
