Costa Smeralda Launches Western Mediterranean Itineraries from Genoa

Costa Smeralda, the flagship of Costa Cruises, has commenced its Western Mediterranean deployment from Genoa. This service will offer roundtrip departures every Friday, starting in April and running through November 2025.

After completing a winter season in the Arabian Gulf, where it made stops in Dubai, Muscat, Doha, and Abu Dhabi, the ship returned to Europe after a 37-day repositioning voyage around Africa. This journey provided a unique opportunity to visit various ports including Muscat, Port Louis, Cape Town, and Barcelona, effectively circumnavigating the continent.

Beginning April 11, Costa Smeralda will operate an 8-day standardized itinerary that includes visits to Marseille, Barcelona, Cagliari, Naples, and Civitavecchia-Rome before returning to Genoa. This deployment not only showcases popular tourist destinations in Italy, France, and Spain but also combines onboard activities with guided excursions ashore.

While at sea, passengers can enjoy experiences such as astronomical observations in the Balearic Sea and culinary sessions featuring local cuisine. Ashore, tours will highlight significant cultural landmarks, including Notre-Dame de la Garde in Marseille and Gaudí’s masterpieces in Barcelona.

This move represents Costa Cruises’ ongoing commitment to enhancing the Mediterranean cruise experience by merging immersive onboard activities with rich cultural excursions.
