Oceania’s Insignia Finds New Home with Crescent Seas: A New Era for Residential Cruising

Crescent Seas, a luxury residential cruise line based in the USA, has announced its plan to unveil its second residential vessel by refurbishing Oceania Cruises’ ship, Insignia. This venture will involve a substantial US$50 million renovation, transforming the Insignia into a floating residential community that will feature 290 private residences, with prices ranging from US$650,000 to US$10 million. The ship is expected to commence services under Crescent Seas in late 2027, with an inaugural voyage scheduled for New Year’s Eve 2028.

Sales of the residences are set to begin in late summer 2025 at a specialized sales gallery located on the eighth floor of the Gale Miami Hotel & Residences. This initiative represents Crescent Seas’ growing presence in both the luxury cruise and real estate markets in the United States.

Originally launched in 1999 as R One, the Insignia was the first of eight R-class ships for Renaissance Cruises and underwent a major refurbishment in 2018. Under Crescent Seas, it will be completely redesigned for luxury residential living while still maintaining operational functions in cooperation with its original operators.

This development marks a significant shift in the luxury maritime market, repurposing the Insignia for permanent living and travel, without conventional cruise itineraries. Crescent Seas emphasizes the idea of extended stays, allowing the ship to remain in ports for up to five days, enabling residents to immerse themselves in local cultures at a leisurely pace.

Onboard amenities will include a dedicated hospitality provider offering luxury food and beverage services, wellness programs, concierge services, and recreational activities. Residents can expect access to co-working lounges, wellness centers, entertainment venues, and educational events, with designs focusing on comfort, connectivity, and community living. This approach caters to various lifestyles, including digital nomads, families, retirees, and individuals looking for long-term floating living experiences.

This announcement comes on the heels of Crescent Seas’ earlier introduction of its first residential vessel, Navigator, which is a converted version of the Seven Seas Navigator. Featuring 210 residences with prices ranging from US$750,000 to US$8 million, the Navigator is anticipated to launch in 2026.

Over the next five years, Crescent Seas aims to roll out three additional residential cruise ships, all designed for permanent oceanfront living while traveling to global destinations. This innovative model allows owners to enjoy a full-time maritime lifestyle, offering a unique alternative to traditional homeownership.
