Asuka III: Japan’s Largest Cruise Ship Officially Delivered to NYK Cruises

On April 10, NYK Cruises officially welcomed the Asuka III, Japan’s largest cruise ship, during a delivery ceremony conducted by Meyer Werft in Emden, Germany. The event was attended by prominent figures, including NYK Cruises President Hiroyuki Endo and Meyer Group CEO Bernd Eikens, alongside other executives and crew members. The ceremony featured a traditional flag-changing to signify the ship’s new status within the fleet.

The Asuka III is a 51,950 GT, 13-deck vessel that can accommodate up to 770 passengers, with a total of 385 staterooms. Notably, the ship is powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), marking it as one of the most energy-efficient creations from Meyer Werft.

Designed with a focus on Japanese aesthetics, the ship incorporates spacious areas and features art from notable Japanese artists, such as a fresco by Hiroshi Senju in the Gallery Café and paintings by Reiji Hiramatsu in the Noblesse Restaurant.

After delivery, Asuka III will make its way to Yokohama, Japan, where it will undergo final outfitting. The ship’s inaugural season promises visits to over 30 destinations across Japan, including Hakodate, Otaru, Takamatsu, Shingu, Muroran, and Moji. A highlighted event of the season is the 12-night "Japan Circumnavigation Cruise," set to embark from Yokohama in early August, making stops at Hakodate, Otaru, Kanazawa, Maizuru, Moji, and Beppu.
