Major Infrastructure Overhaul Planned for Singapore Port’s Marina Bay Cruise Terminal
The Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS) is poised for a significant infrastructure upgrade, with the project estimated to cost S$40 million (approximately US$759,500). This redevelopment, spanning nine months, marks the terminal’s most substantial enhancement since it opened in 2012.
Once the upgrade is complete, the MBCCS will be able to host two large cruise ships at the same time, increasing its passenger processing capacity from 6,800 to an impressive 11,700. The improvements will feature larger seating areas for embarkation and disembarkation, upgraded lounge facilities, and additional check-in counters, allowing for more efficient handling of passenger flow during concurrent ship visits.
Adjacent to the terminal, an undeveloped land parcel will be transformed into a ground transport hub, which will include expanded capacity for coach bays and more spaces for ride-hailing vehicles. Additionally, the widening of a portion of Marina Coastal Drive is planned to facilitate better vehicular access to the terminal.
The redevelopment will be carried out in phases to keep the terminal operational during the renovation. This project comes under the management of SATS-Creuers Cruise Services, which has overseen the terminal since May 21, 2012. In support of this upgrade, the Singapore Tourism Board has extended the operating agreement with SATS-Creuers for an extra eight years, with an option for an additional two-year extension.
