Ponant Cruises Unveils Stunning Refurbishment of MS Paul Gauguin Ship

Ponant Cruises has successfully completed a significant 7-week drydock refurbishment of its 330-guest vessel, the MS Paul Gauguin, at the Singapore shipyard, with services resuming on April 1. This comprehensive overhaul included substantial upgrades to public areas, accommodations, and environmental systems to meet modern maritime standards and enhance operational sustainability.

Under the guidance of Stirling Design International, the refurbishment modernized the ship while preserving its South Pacific character. The enhancements focused on both passenger comfort and operational efficiency.

Notable upgrades include:

  • New Connecting Staterooms: Eight connecting staterooms were added on Deck 7, promoting family travel. This supports the family-oriented "Moana Explorer Program" in collaboration with Te mana o te moana, a marine conservation organization from the South Pacific.

  • Le Grill Restaurant Redesign: The open-air dining venue was updated with white wood accents, ceramic tilework, and light oak furnishings. The new lighting and screening elements improve both aesthetics and functionality.

  • Pool Deck Enhancements: The redesigned pool deck features a new canopy for shaded cabana-style seating, a mosaic tile border around the pool, and increased lounger capacity for relaxation.

  • Sustainability Initiatives: The MS Paul Gauguin received eco-efficient systems such as heat recovery, advanced chiller technology, an Organic Rankine Cycle for auxiliary electricity, and optimized electric motors. The ship now converts seawater for fresh water and has implemented a Nordaq filtration system to eliminate single-use plastic bottles. Waste management was improved with the addition of a glass crusher and cardboard compactor.

  • Exterior Branding: The ship’s funnel now proudly displays the Ponant Explorations Group’s polished steel and LED-lit 3-sail emblem, aligning with the parent company’s brand identity.

Following the refurbishment, the MS Paul Gauguin will embark on two voyages in its 2025 “Boutique Crossing Collection” — a 14-night Immersive Indonesia voyage from Singapore to Australia and a 16-night Crossing Melanesia journey to Fiji. The ship is set to resume its year-round itineraries in French Polynesia in May, offering all-inclusive trips ranging from 7 to 14 nights through the Society Islands, Tuamotus, Cook Islands, and Marquesas.
