Emergency Response: Flooding Incident Aboard Sky Princess Due to Burst Pipe
On April 8, 2025, the cruise ship Sky Princess, operated by Princess Cruises, experienced significant flooding caused by a burst pipe on Deck 7. The incident occurred around 10:45 p.m. during a 7-night voyage that began in Southampton, England.
As water was released from the Sky Pool on Deck 16, it flowed through multiple decks, particularly affecting the Piazza atrium on decks 5 and 6. Having recently visited La Coruna and Bilbao, Spain, the ship was headed towards Le Verdon-sur-Mer, France at the time of the flooding.
In response, the ship activated its emergency protocols, with crew members instructing passengers to proceed to their assigned muster stations. Some guests experienced confusion due to simultaneous false fire alarms triggered by technical issues, adding to the chaos of the situation.
Prompt action by the ship’s teams managed to stop the water flow and initiate cleanup efforts. Princess Cruises confirmed that the flooding was limited to the Piazza area, and other entertainment venues remained operational. By the morning of April 9, guests were allowed to return to the affected areas.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the Sky Princess continued its scheduled itinerary with further stops in Cherbourg, France before returning to Southampton on April 12.
