Norwegian Cruise Line Unveils Norwegian Aqua and Enhancements to Great Stirrup Cay

On April 13, 2025, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) celebrated the christening of its latest ship, the Norwegian Aqua, at PortMiami, Florida. Emmy Award-winning actor Eric Stonestreet had the honor of being the ship’s godfather, performing the traditional bottle-breaking ceremony to bless the vessel and its future passengers.

During the ceremony, NCL President David J. Herrera shared plans for enhancing Great Stirrup Cay, the cruise line’s private island in the Bahamas, which is set to be completed by late 2025. The announced upgrades include:

• A 28,000 square-foot heated pool with swim-up bars, a children’s splash zone, and cabanas.
• A new welcome center to improve guest reception.
• An island-wide tram system for easier navigation.
• The Vibe Beach Club, an adults-only area equipped with private cabanas.
• Horizon Park, a recreational space for lawn games and shaded relaxation.

These enhancements are intended to enrich the visitor experience and accommodate the growing number of guests.

Following its christening, the Norwegian Aqua will embark on 7-day Eastern Caribbean voyages from Port Canaveral, Florida, making stops at locations such as Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, and Great Stirrup Cay. Later in 2025, the vessel will also host roundtrips from New York City to Bermuda, before returning to Miami for additional Caribbean itineraries.

The event featured entertainment, including a performance of “Revolution: A Celebration of Prince.” These developments underscore NCL’s dedication to enhancing its offerings and providing varied experiences for its guests.
