On April 12, 2025, AmaWaterways launched its inaugural river cruise on Colombia’s Magdalena River aboard the ship AmaMagdalena. This marks a significant expansion for the river cruise line into South America, adding to its established operations in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

The AmaMagdalena is specifically designed to host 60 guests and was constructed with the involvement of local Colombian artisans, including interior designer Marianna Schlegel Donado from Barranquilla. The ship features spacious twin-balcony staterooms, a sun deck pool, a fitness center, a main restaurant serving Latin American cuisine, and an al fresco dining option.

The vessel offers two unique seven-night itineraries: "Magic of Colombia" and "Wonders of Colombia," which travel between Cartagena and Barranquilla. Passengers can participate in excursions to various culturally rich locations like Santa Cruz de Mompox and Nueva Venecia, connecting them with local communities. There are also optional pre- and post-cruise land packages available in Medellín, Cartagena, and Panama City.

Demonstrating a commitment to sustainable tourism, AmaWaterways has partnered with local communities to create beneficial initiatives. The company has also designed nine custom excursion boats to explore biodiverse areas along the river. Onboard activities include tastings of tropical fruits, artisanal chocolate, rum, and Colombian coffee, enriching guests’ understanding of Colombia’s rich traditions.

A second ship, the AmaMelodia, is anticipated to start sailing on the Magdalena River in June 2025, further increasing AmaWaterways’ presence in the region. Prices for the "Wonders of Colombia" cruise, set to depart on October 11, 2025, begin at GBP 4,255 per person for a French Balcony stateroom.
